I need to broaden my horizons.

PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor

I remember chatting on a instant message program called PowWow back in 1995.  This person I was chatting with suggested I should try designing a web page.  Knowing nothing about this I decided to investigate it and ever since then I have been playing around with HTML and making web pages first with Notepad then with a WYSIWYG application called HotDog.  Things were so much simpler back in the early - mid 90’s on the Internet, but I digress.

One thing I have always wanted to do is learn how to code PHP.  There have been many times I have started to learn it just to get bored and stop.  I believe one of the reasons for this is because I could never really come up with a good beginner application that would allow me to apply what I was learning as I went.

Well, I have come up with that app and have decided to try learn PHP.  It is an application that I know existed at one time but I can no longer find.  For someone who knows how to code in PHP this application would probably take them a whole hour or so.  It is pretty simple but will be very useful (huge time saver) to affiliate marketers.  Now lets hope I can apply what I am learning and make this happen.

If you see me post an ad looking for a PHP coder you know I most likely failed.

I think I started HTML with a WYSIWYG application called Arachnid. It was better than some of the commercial counterparts of its time. But, even with that, I didn’t do much with web pages until 1997 when GoLive CyberStudio was released. It was later purchased by Adobe and renamed Adobe GoLive.

Adobe discontinued it, so I use Dreamweaver now. I always liked CyberStudio though. I downloaded the demo and was so impressed by it I went ahead and purchased it within hours.

Good luck with your PHP project. My first dip into PHP was several years ago. I had a Perl script that would add a page counter to your website. I had someone ask me if it could be done in PHP. So, that’s when I gave PHP a look, and, if I remember right, I had it converted to PHP that same day. But, I never really touched PHP again until last year, around the same time I really started blogging!

I think I had a Xoom account or something like that. Back in those days web hosting was very expensive.
